International Conference on Managing Intellectual Property in Universities

As a follow-up to last year’s event on the theme of managing intellectual property in universities, Bogazici University will once again be hosting an international conference on intellectual property under the same general title between the 16th and the 18th of May 2012.

This year’s international conference is organised in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a specialized agency of the United Nations, and the Turkish Patent Institute, a devolved agency of the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology.

Bogazici University is delighted to welcome, at this year’s event, distinguished representatives and delegates who have been designated by WIPO from among the 33 selected countries in Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Caucasus and the Mediterranean. The event will mark the 4th annual meeting, where WIPO experts shall convene in Istanbul, in connection with the preparation of the “WIPO Tool on IP Teaching”, following on from the previous Inter-Regional conferences held successively in Poland (June 2009), Bulgaria (May 2010), and Kazakhstan (August 2011). The University is distinctly honoured to welcome the Director of the DCEA Division of WIPO where Turkey is one of the Cooperating Countries, as well as the Director of the WIPO Academy at what promises to be a memorable occasion.

Following the joint opening ceremony for the international conference, some of the panels shall comprise international and local speakers as well as country delegates and experts that have been invited by WIPO whilst a number of roundtables shall be restricted to WIPO experts only.

Under the general theme of managing intellectual property in universities, this year’s conference is intended to focus on the teaching of IP in the context of current developments and challenges that face both the academe and industry as well as exploring the means for effective commercialization of knowledge-driven intellectual assets.
